The gods have created a world – they’ve built mountains, a sea and a sky – and now their days are filled with long naps in the clouds (and tea and cake). That’s until Harry, Sue and little Ben begin to fill the gaps of the world: with a mousy thing, a chirpy thing and a twisty legless thing.

The story has a repetitive pattern of events with an unfortunate event at the end that is resolved by the youngest character. It proves that you shouldn't meddle with things you don't understand.
I liked this book because it inspires me to be creative
This book is full of imaginations.
I enjoyed reading this book.
I recommend this book to my friends.
I thought this was a very good book. I think this book was very interesting, I like the end the best.
It’s non-fiction but my favourite character is little Ben.
It’s not factual but it interested me because I see this book quite a lot.
I would recommend it to someone else like my mum.
It was fine and I liked it. Ben was quite smart and I would recommend it to somebody else.
I like the book but I particularly liked the amazing drawings!
I like this book because how the children create the own animals by some words.
It was kind of funny because how the gods were just laying around and just eating the whole day. I like little Ben because he was very understandable about doing those things which were not good for him.
This book was about children making their own animals that exists now. However Harry and Sue have got eaten by a wolf because they didn't listen to Little Ben's advice not to make the wolf. This story tells us about God creating the us and the world.
I am a big fan of both David Almond as an author and mythology, so Almond writing mythological fiction was something that I found myself drawn to. While I'm not much of an artist or illustration enthusiast, I found myself staring endlessly into Dave Mckean's art while possible class discussion points kept tumbling out of my head. It's a short story but the characters are fully formed through the combination of concise writing and gorgeous scenery, and the whole story prompts comparisons of other mythologies- making it an ideal supplementary read for pupils learning about Greeks, Romans or Vikings.
No spoilers, but it built tension wonderfully, and I enjoyed what happened to two of the children, as I think children's fiction can sometimes shy away from fully embracing the consequences of a characters actions. I think it also dealt with the follow-up of these consequences very well. I'd recommend it to any junior school pupil, and I'd certainly recommend it to colleagues and friends who are teachers. It is a terrific resource.
I really liked this story because it was funny and the pictures are really good . it is a fun little book for all ages!
I quite enjoyed reading this book.it was about a world similar to our world where the Gods haven't finished creating the world. Three children create the mouse, the bird and the snake to fill the empty spaces. Then the elder two of the children create the wolf who gobbles them up. Then the youngest child unmakes the wolf and gets back his older siblings.
This book is an amazing mixture of literature and illustration. It is an exciting read with an usual tale about a world only partially made by gods, who being satisfied with themselves decide that they do not need to fill the gaps left in the world. 3 children then choose to try and create creatures in order to fill some of the gaps, ultimately with quite severe consequences, when they finally create a wolf.
It is an astonishing piece of work and I would recommend this as a book to read.
I liked it when little Ben, Harry and Sue all made there own animals! I liked the funny world they lived in! I recommend someone who loves animals to read this book!
I liked little Ben best because he was very clever when they were making the wolf as he hid up the tree.
I would recommend this book because it has good pictures to go along with the story and really let's you see what is going on in the story.
I though this book was quite good. I rated this book a 4 because it was really interesting and I really liked the pictures in it. I don't want to rate it a 5 because there wasn't enough writing in it so there wasn't enough information. I recommend this book for children aged six+. My favourite character was Ben because he defeated the Wolf and he was funny.
im have enjoyed this book
The world is a wonderful place. The gods made the world. But the gods are too lazy to finish making the world. Ben, Sue and Harry decide to create some of their own creatures. Ben makes a Mouse, Sue makes a Bird and Harry makes a Snake. When Sue and Harry decide to make a wolf, the wolf gobbles them up. The god and Ben had warned them but they did not listen. So Ben tries to UN-make the wolf. Not UN-making the wolf, Ben asks one of the Gods to help. The God is to lazy and drifts to sleep. Suddenly the wolf turns back to clay and sticks. inside the pile of sticks, Sue and Harry are lying asleep. In the end, the Gods decide to make Mice, Birds and snakes but they think Wolves should not be made.
This book is so good with so many odd pictures
This was a book I quite enjoyed. Its all about three kids in their own world each trying to make their own animal that the gods have not made yet.I would say its quite interesting so read this book.
David Almond has the rare gift of not patronising his audience.
This book is conducted in a way that, doesn't give away to much in the first paragraph.
I would recommend this book to children of all ages and who like lots of different books.
This definetly gets 5 stars from me, Well Done David Almond!
Teaches children a lesson not to listen to other people
Lovely book definitely would recommend
this book is strange and i did not quite get it but it has some lovely drawings
RAMDON werid worlds magical
A great comic with plenty of information, is great for those who enjoy picture books! Three siblings find themselves overpowering the Gods... leading them to danger... But who can save them when they are the only ones in the world? This has a good moral and will be a great lesson to those who think they can overpower others as well as a great read!
This is a story that we can all learn from due to the fact that it talks about the consequences of bragging.
If you like magic or making books you would like to read it but it is not really for imature people.
Its really adventurous and creative
