Okay, so this was published way back in 2011 but it's a powerful story in the Simon Serrailler series, which tackles issues that are still topical now. Flash floods in Lafferton expose a shallow grave on the embankment of the local bypass and the body is identified as that of a teenaged girl who went missing 20 years earlier. Serrailler is appointed the senior investigating officer and so must dig back into the lives of the girl’s family and friends to discover what happened. It's beautifully written and perhaps is best described as a novel with a crime in it, rather than crime fiction per se. Atmospheric, clever and absolutely gripping.
