Athelstan Road Reading Group, Exeter, Devon

adults

Meets on

Run by Stephen McConnell Library service

A group of local people - mostly from Athelstan Road - that meets on the third Sunday of the month throughout the year. We read books supplied by the excellent Devon Library Service. These are selected by members from a list supplied by the library. We have read a range of texts, including biography and non-fiction. We currently have a dozen members. The meetings are informal, held in front rooms rather than in a hall or library. We discuss the books as appropriate, depending on the level of enthusiasm for a particular text. Occasionally, we have departed from the norm, reading poetry or a range of texts by a selected author. Members have attended talks watched films and plays or gone on visits as a result of their reading. Several of us are writers and we also have people who come along for whom English is a second language.
