Book Group in Brum ~ for teachers and creative practitioners

adults

Meets at Millennium Point - ibar

Run by Jackie Zammit Library service

We are a group of teachers and creative practitioners, passionate about quality books for young people. We read books aimed at primary and secondary aged children, that raise a whole variety of issues, and consider ways of using them in our work. We look at stories set in different parts of the world, those that raise controversial issues and others used to support young people think about their own identity. Favourites include Caught in the Crossfire by Alan Gibbons, Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman and Divided City by Theresa Breslin. We also love picture books, particularly those by Shaun Tan! and independent publishers like Tara Books. Having the opportunity to explore rich, well-written texts with other educationalists inspires us to teach more creatively, and helps us connect with the young people we are working with. If you share this passion, then please do join us. We can be contacted through our facebook page.

We meet at: Curzon Street, Birmingham, Birmingham, West midlands, B4 7XG
