Bromley Library Visually Impaired Reading Group
adults
The group launched in September 2012 and is now well established but we always welcome new members! Guide dogs are most welcome (we usually have 3!).
In common with the other adult reading groups, we meet monthly in the library (apart from August and December) and all share and discuss the same title. Our meetings are very friendly and informal and we often become so involved that we over run our time!
Group members have a wide range of visual impairment and read the book in a variety of formats. Our talking book sets are supplied on MP3 CD by Calibre Audio library (so a book usually fits onto a single CD) One of our reading group prefers a large print copy of the book when available and another is a braille reader and obtains her own copy from the RNIB Library.
To give a flavour of the group these are the titles which we have read and discussed so far:
\\\'A Walk in the Woods\\\' by Bill Bryson (non fiction)
\\\'The Warden\\\'by Anthony Trollope (Classic novel)
\\\'Another World\\\' by Pat Barker
\\\'The Crystal Cave\\\' by Mary Stewert (Fantasy)
\\\'The Missing Postman\\\' by Mark Wallington
\\\'In this House of Brede\\\' by Rumer Godden
\\\'Memoirs of an Unfit mother\\\' by Anne Robinson (Autobiography)
In April 2013 we participated in City Read London, sharing \\\'A week in December\\\' by Sebastian Faulkes
