High on Books CARATS reading group

The reading group is for prisoners at HMP Birmingham and has a diverse mix of readers from all ages and backgrounds. It is run in accordance with the CARATS (Counselling, Assessment,Referral,Advice and Throughcare Service) programme. It is jointly run with HMP Birmingham library. The reading group is one of the core examples used for relaxation for ex drug users. Bibliotherapy is used as a coping strategy and has proved to have a calming effect on the prisoners.
