Written in 1968 this short novel taught me lots about the Highland Clearances in the early 1800's, a period of history previously unknown to me. It is told from the perspective of an old woman who has lived in her croft all her life and is told she must leave to make room for sheep grazing. In dealing with this she discovers much about herself and her neighbours and the strength that the weak often find they possess when faced with injustice. Sparse prose make for a quick read.
